All in the Present Must Be Transformed: Matthew Barney and Joseph Beuys at PEGGY GUGGENHEIM COLLECTION

All in the Present Must Be Transformed: Matthew Barney and Joseph Beuys.

Open until 2 September.

An exploration – through works coming mainly from the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum’s collection – of the artistic and conceptual affinities between two artists belonging to different generations and different geographical origins: Matthew Barney (San Francisco 1967), an American artist who expresses himself through multimedia works, installations, sculptures, photographs and drawings, and Joseph Beuys, the famous German artist (1921-1986), spokesman for the conceptual art currents in the second half of the 20th century and a master of multimedia art. Due to the complexity of mounting the show, curated by Nancy Spector of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum of New York, it has been set in the rooms that traditionally host the permanent display – which has been moved for this occasion only to the temporary exhibition space.
