SPHERES OF THE EARTH AND THE SKY. CELESTIAL AND TERRESTRIAL GLOBES FROM THE 16TH TO 20TH CENTURY. Open to the public through 13 April 2008.

This unusual exhibition explores the intriguing ways the earth and the sky have been depicted over the centuries. The exhibition, divided in chronological-thematic sections that explore the subject from an historical-artistic as well as scientific evolutionary points of view, offers some 140 works from the Venetian collections of the Correr Museum and the Marciana National Library and from other premier private collections such as that of the scholar Rudolf Schmidt, member of the Coronelli International Society for the Study of Globes.
Notable among the exhibits on view are the precious 16th-century globe of cartographer Livio Sanudo and those of Venetian Friar Vincenzo Coronelli (1650-1718), one of the most famous globe producers in the 17th century.
Curators, Marica Milanesi and Rudolf Schmidt.
