Coming of Age. American Art From 1850 to 1950.

Open to the public, Sat. 28 June through 12 October 2008.

Shown already in the United States and Britain, this exhibition of over seventy paintings and sculptures examines a century of American art and illustrates the evolution of American art as it took up the center of the world stage.

The show is mounted in the new halls of the Guggenheim Collection and opens with paintings of the Hudson River and by the Ashcan School, to proceed with paintings of early American Modernism, Realist art between the two world wars by Scheeler and Hopper, Abstract and Geometric art by O’Keefe and Dove, and Pollock and Kline’s Abstract Expressionism.

Curated by William C. Agee and Susan C. Faxon.

Open (exhibition permanent display): 10am – 6pm.

Last admission, 5.30pm. Closed Tuesday.
