Genji Monogatari - The resplendent prince in the collection of the Oriental Art Museum of Venice
.
“Genji Monogatari” is the first novel in history. The venetian museum celebrates it with an exhibition of over 40 works from its collection (usually not on display), including paintings, panels, garments, enamels, games, musical instruments, sword handles and stocks.
Exhibits come from the personal collection of Prince Henry II de Bourbon which formed the museum’s original nucleus of works, all date back to the Edo period (1603-1867), when the popularity and appreciation of the famous book by Murasaki were at their peak. The show is organized under the patronage of the Japanese Consulate General in Milan, in collaboration with the Japanese Cultural Institute of Rome and the University of Venice. Curated by Fiorella Spadavecchia.

Open (museum and exhibitions): 10am-6pm (last admission, 5pm).
Closed Monday. Admission : € 5.50, discounted, € 3.00.
Free for city residents and Venice-born.
